How to Track Email’s Original Location via IP Address ?

Sometimes we need to know the the source of certain emails. You can do this with the many of the popular email services such as Gmail, Yahoo, and your POP3 email via Outlook. Here is a very simple tutorial that explain to trace the location of Sender including his/her ISP , City and Location.

Finding the IP address of an email sender in GMail !

1. Log into your account and open the email in question.

2. Click on the down arrow that’s to the right of the Reply link. Choose Show Original from the list.

Step 3 : Now look for the line Received: from , It might be easier to simply press Cntrl + F and perform a search for that phase.


Step 4 :So now we have the IP address ie. 202.168.89.74.

Tracking the location of an IP address :

Now that we have our originating IP addresses that we got from Gmail [202.168.89.74]. Now let’s find out where that is! You can do this by perform a location lookup on the IP address.by using IP2Location.

Finding the IP address of an email sender in YahooMail!

  1. Log into your Yahoo email account.
  2. Open the email message. You will have to double click the email to open it in a new window if you are using the new Yahoo Mail Beta.
  3. In the top right corner of the email message window you will see a drop-down list where Standard Header is the default selection.
  4. Click on the drop down list and select Full Header. This will display the same information as shown in a Gmail email message.

Now Locate the Received: from or Received: from and you should see the originating IP address listed. Look in the above image that we got the IP address 122.200.20.242

Tracking the location of an IP address :

Now that we have our originating IP addresses that we got from Yahoo![122.200.20.242] let’s find out where that is! You can do this by perform a location lookup on the IP address. by using IP2Location.

this does not work if the both are on same mail server..

ex x@gmail.com sends mail to y@gmail.com.

can’t be trace. or atleast i don’t know how to do that..

ya,it's nice.I collected the details of "Track ip address using the sender email" from http://aruljohn.com/info/howtofindipaddress/.

And i also found the site ip-detailsfor getting the ip-location using the ip-address.It's also useful for me.
