Tips on Customizing WordPress

Establishing the ideal theme for your WordPress blog is the first important step that you will need to consider if you want your personal online space to represent you better. For this purpose, you will definitely want to read the advice below. Let’s get started.

1. Fonts

In general, titles look good when they are doubled or larger than the body font size of text. Otherwise they tend to be confused with text or with the subtitles. Subtitles are generally the same size as the text, except for the fact that they are be bolded. Obviously, too much bolded text in a paragraph will make it look “riddled” and hard to follow.

Italics are used for quotes in general, but can also be used for highlighted words, phrases, etc., having the advantage because they are less intrusive than the bold feature, but a bit harder to notice when skimming for information.

2. Chromatics

Avoid using too many animated GIFs, as well as fluorescent colors and optical illusions that create annoying visual noise, because this will make your readers close the page instantly. In terms of color, there are two standard ways when it comes to blogging: either dark text on light background or vice versa. Feel free to decide what is suitable for you according to your tastes.

3. Proportion, dimensions, airworthiness.

The most practical blogs are the ones written on two columns, because they are easier to navigate on. As a general rule, however, the more you multiply the number of columns, menus and sidebar items, the less readable your blog will be.

Furthermore, the space between the posts is also important. If the blog is focused on pictures, generous spaces between the posts the images will help the user.

On the other hand, if you decide to focus more on text make sure your headings are clear. Paragraphs are also very useful, since no one has the patience to read a huge block of 30-40 rows.

It’s better to be concise, because a blog is not a book to read while sitting in the shade in the park. It’s more uncomfortable to read on screen than on paper and after 3-4 paragraphs long your readers will surely feel tired.

Final Things to Remember

The content is always more important than the form it is expressed on. But obviously, the effect will not be the same if the content is brilliant, but the way it is presented is totally inappropriate. Last but not least, personality counts.

A perfect functional design, no matter how practical and effective it is, would have no charm without a hint of personality, but that does not mean  that you will have to put the picture of your car 30 times on the same page. Always maintain a balance and you will eventually be able to obtain the WordPress theme that is the most suitable for you.
