Does it seem like a very old concept? Not at all!

It’s a reinvented one!

Following are few essential tags that are significant and worth using on your website that requires higher search visibility as well as authority:

USUAL SEARCHSPECTS

While Google is messing out that Meta tags are not worth anymore, it is still and important factor in SEO! As you know, on-page plays a key role in search engine optimization, it is very essential to provide them in a perfect way to get the best clicks.

Making the tags engaging and appealing, the content may definitely win a click from the visitors reaching the website.

Page Title

Being regarded as the most important on-page factor, title tags has been undergoing a bit of examinations recently and has determined that they are not limited to 70 characters, but fairly some pixel-width. Further, research says that the search engine algorithm chops down it to limited chars or it displays the most relevant text that matches the query.

<title>[A Maximum of 70 characters with keyword optimized text]</title>

Page Description

If your page is of commercial importance, then this place would be left for your slogan or the best text that gives you a sale. Research has told that about 43.2% of the users click the website in the search results depending on the content in Meta description!

<meta name=”description” content =”[155 – 160 characters of compelling message matching the text of the content that drives call to action]”>

Authorship Markup

It is being predicted that Google is going to rank content that is connected with authors and they can deem their authorship from reliable sources. A very cool aspect of the authorship markup is that your name and picture will be displayed in the Search Engine’s Result Page.

authorship markup

How does it make magic?

 Rel-Author

This is the tag that is implemented with the author’s piece of content to the displayed on the SERPs with the use of Google+ for identity. There are two versions available here, like

<a rel=”AUTHOR” href =“[YOUR G+ PROFILE URL]”>[+YOUR PROFILE NAME]</a>

to use in the <head> tag,

Or

You can use the modular version to place it directly on the page,

<a href=“[YOUR G+ PROFILE URL]?rel=author”>[+YOUR PROFILE NAME]</a>

The latter one is considered as the greatest link building strategy!

Rel-Me

It is just another version of rel-author tag. You can simply use this tag on a link back to your G+ profile like

< a href=”https://plus.google.com/[YOUR G+ PROFILE NUMBER]” rel=”me”>Me on G+</a>

Rel-Publisher

This is especially for business entities that are in need of claiming ownership for their content. It can be either used along with rel-author or can replace it, but it is a must that link will need to point the business having Google+ profile. Publisher’s link should not be linked to individual profiles.

<link rel=”PUBLISHER” href=”[YOUR G+ BUSINESS PROFILE URL]”/>

  • Nice tutorial Amy,

If you’re not using Google Authorship then you’re certainly missing your opportunity to build strong author rank, which many experts believe Google is going to use in coming time to rank your content.

By implementing Google Authorship, you can improve your CTR and increase more visits.

  • Thanks Admin for this great sharing. Actually from last few months my blog traffics falls very much. Am a regular viewer of your best posts. Your posts really enrich me. Thank you very much .

  • Hey Friend, Thanks you. Sure if you follow these tips, you can make more sense in your website ranking with the help of Google plus and Authorship. It can also increase your content marketing strategy!

  • That’s great Friends. Sure, it will help a lot, if not now, in the future updates of Google 🙂

  • I use Yoast’s SEO plugin. It gets simple to manage all the SEO. The best thing I did not have to pay for it.
On the other note, I really like the authorship thing. I have an authorship and I think people tend to click more when there is a picture of the writer there…

Can you tell me how to bring the star rating to show on my Google results?

  • This is a great blog post…The most important function of these Meta Tags is to facilitate the users with more data and it is not about influencing the search engine ranking, but it has the ability to enhance the user experience which in turn may influence your website traffic. Thanks for this blog post.

  • Google Authorship was a fine and interesting project. Unfortunately, I did not had the chance – or the courage! – to try it at its time. Too bad that Google has decided to shut it down for good.

But, according to the authors of some of the important search engine-focused websites, like SearchEngineJournal and SearchEngineLand, those who have added the rel tag should not rush to erase it, because one never knows what benefits will do. Anyway, the worse thing that can happen is that it will be ignored by Google search engine.

But, even if Google Authorship is gone, there is still Author Rank in use. Now, this concept, sounds a bit confusing, maybe because it’s hard to imagine how Google does to “rank” and “verify” a certain author and its work. But, as far as I could understand, we are back to the old classic SEO and social networking stuff. At least, this is how it looks like to be.

Now, I must admit that the fancy author photo (connected to the G+ profile) was quite impressive. But maybe, – who knows? – in the future, others will take this “orphan” idea from Google left it, will improve it and revive it.

Maybe even Gravatar (the one that shows my little image on this comment), will be the one who will carry on with this idea!…
